Stress, Mental Health & Food.

I’m going all out and trying something totally different for you guys next week! As you may know next week is mental health awareness week in the UK (14th – 20th May) and the focus this year is going to be around stress.

I think we can all relate to feeling stressed at some point in our lives. Whether it was because you couldn’t get something to work, you have an exam coming up or you were having a panic attack in a crowded space. I think now more than ever we are living in a very stressful time. With the constant development of the internet and pressure to be immediately successful… how could we not be stressed out? We live in a time where everyone seems to be racing towards something and we have to pencil our social lives into a diary! That’s why I’m really on board with the focus of this mental health awareness week and looking forward to doing something different to address my stress levels.

As well as releasing 3 very useful and informative blog posts next week I will be doing something really different for you over on my Instagram! As an advocate and student of practising good mental health I think it’s important to try new things to help myself and share how it goes… so this coming week I’ll be eating foods known to help reduce stress levels and I’ll be checking in on Instagram stories every day with how it’s working out.

Stress eating is a huge problem for me it’s definitely got everything to do with my recent weight gain and I know that I find solid comfort in huge feasts! There’s nothing wrong with gaining weight or enjoying food but I would like to learn more about reducing the direct link between stress, bad mental health and food!

I’ll be trying out foods that are supposed to have a quick impact on your stress levels. These kinds of food are great for carrying around with you, keeping at work or incorporating into your meals! I thought trying out foods that reduce stress might really help when I turn to food for comfort. The 4 foods I’ll be testing out are:

Dark Chocolate

Blueberries

Pistachio Nuts

Avocado

I’ll try each food out for 2 days and monitor how I am feeling over that period of time. I’ll be reporting in on Instagram stories with the results! Make sure you’re following me on instagram to keep up with it all! You can find a link to my account at the bottom of this post.

Let me know if you’re going to following along and if you know any good recipes I should try with ingredients in the comments section below.

I can’t take credit for the photos! Check out pexels.com for free stock images when you’re hella busy and need some pictures quick time!
