Pretty. Fat. Girl.

To celebrate 1 year of Afro Glory I am doing a series of fun and insightful post leading up to the 24th of February, which marks my first year as a blogger!!!

So you’re probably wondering what the heck the title of this blog post is about because it’s totally new to Afro Glory so I’m just going to get straight into it. I’ve decided that as well as discussing mental health, natural hair and lifestyle on the blog I would like to start doing dedicated body positivity posts.

I can’t remember a time when I haven’t been a plus size girl. All through high school, university and my adult life I have been a plus size girl. I’ve ranged from a size 14 – size 22 from what I remember but I’ve never strayed from my love/hate relationship with my body.

To be honest guys, I still have a love/hate relationship with my body this very moment. I use a lot of energy on both but it never feels like wasted energy when I’m loving myself.

I’m sure many of you follow body positivity accounts on social media and find it as empowering and uplifting as I do, but do you ever think ‘I wish I loved my body like this’? I do it all the time and recently it clicked that if that’s what I really want then it’s a journey I need to take myself on. I don’t want to just sit, watch and cheer on other people anymore. I want to learn too focus all of my energy on loving myself too.

Actual words said to me by an actual person! This is someone I let into my life as a friend during my time at university, to be honest he was my best mate at uni. I supposed I had better thank him for giving me such an insight into the cruelty of people even when they claim to “love you”. I remember this really hurting me… if someone said this to me now though… I think they might remember being really hurt!Β πŸ˜‚

This year I’m going to stop being cruel to myself. I am going to practise kindness and love towards my body in the form of compliments, self care, food (full disclosure: definitely includes pizza πŸ•πŸ˜)Β and activity.

Thanks for reading and I’m really looking forward to sharing this journey with you guys!
